New neighborhoods and settling driveways
Wylie has grown quickly over the last couple of decades, and many driveways there are still on their first surface. A common problem in newer subdivisions is settling: soil that was disturbed and backfilled during construction compacts over the years, and the driveway sinks beside the house or at the curb. On clay, that settling is made worse by wet and dry cycles. Fixing it means taking out the sunken section, compacting and rebuilding the base, and laying new asphalt; the asphalt repair page covers smaller areas and the driveway replacement page covers the whole drive.
Rural drives toward the lake
North and east of town, toward Lavon Lake, there are still homes on acreage with long gravel or dirt drives. Turning one into a paved surface starts with the existing base: an old gravel drive that has been driven on for years is often a decent start, topped up with stone where it is thin and shaped with a crown. Then it is hot-mix, chip seal or millings, depending on the length and the budget. See chip seal driveways for the lower-cost option.

Downtown and small business lots
Around downtown and along SH 78, shops, offices and churches have smaller lots that need patching, sealcoating and striping more than full rebuilds. We schedule those around opening hours. For new home drives, see driveway paving, and for the line items behind a price, the asphalt driveway cost page.
