New layouts and restriping
A new or resurfaced lot needs a layout: stall size and angle, drive aisle widths, traffic flow, and where the accessible spaces and the route to the door go. On an existing lot, restriping follows the old lines unless they no longer work, which is common when a building has changed use or the accessible spaces no longer meet the current rules. After sealcoating, the lot is striped fresh because the coating covers the old paint.
What we paint
- Stall lines, single or double, at 90 degrees or angled.
- Accessible spaces with access aisles, the symbol and the route to the entrance.
- Directional arrows, stop bars and crosswalks.
- Fire lanes and curb markings where the fire marshal requires them.
- Loading zones, reserved spaces and numbered stalls.

Paint, timing and keeping the lot open
Lines are painted with a striping machine for straight, even widths, using paint made for traffic surfaces. Fresh paint dries quickly in warm weather, so a lot can usually reopen the same visit, and we stripe in sections or outside business hours where the lot cannot close. Faded lines in Texas sun are normal after a couple of years; drive lanes and entrances wear out first.
Layout rules that apply
The City of Garland's development rules set stall and aisle sizes for new lots, and the Texas Accessibility Standards set the number, size and placement of accessible spaces. We lay out to those rules and point out on the walk-through where an existing lot falls short. For paving or repairs before striping, see parking lot paving.
