Long drives on bigger lots
Rockwall has grown fast, and a lot of that growth is homes on larger lots, some on an acre or more, set back from the road. A long drive is a big area to pave, and the right surface depends on how it is used. Near the house, where cars park and turn, hot-mix asphalt is usually the choice. For the long run out to the road, a chip seal driveway or a compacted recycled asphalt driveway can cost noticeably less per foot. We price them side by side so you can decide.
Building on Rockwall County clay
Rockwall County is the smallest county in Texas by area, and most of it sits on the same dark Blackland Prairie clay as the rest of the area. On open land, a new drive often crosses ground that has never been built on, so it needs topsoil stripped, a firm stone base, and a crown or cross-slope so rain runs off both sides instead of soaking in. Where the drive meets the road at a ditch, the culvert under the apron matters too, because a blocked or crushed pipe sends water back under the new surface.

Subdivisions and business lots
In the newer neighborhoods, the work is closer to what we do in Garland: replacing driveways that have cracked or settled, resurfacing ones that have worn, and checking HOA rules on surfaces first. Shops, restaurants and offices along I-30 and the main roads get patching, sealcoating and striping. The asphalt driveway cost page shows the line items behind each type of job.
